LARC Publications Program
Publications Guidelines
General Guidelines for Authors and Editors
LARC has an active book publications program that welcomes proposals for new books concerned with the study and teaching of foreign languages. The program is overseen by LARC's Publications Committee and is administered by LARC's book publications staff.
The book publications program invites submission of complete manuscripts as well as queries regarding ideas for new books. If you have any questions about the book publications program or a specific manuscript or proposal you would like to submit, please feel free to contact Maria Ortega (mortega@projects.sdsu.edu).
Submitting a Completed Manuscript
Before sending us a manuscript, please send to Maria Ortega, managing editor of the LARC Press, a one-page letter describing the proposed book's subject, purpose, and audience. You should include with this letter the book's table of contents, and introductory or sample chapter, and a curriculum vitae for each prospective author or editor.
If the proposed book seems appropriate to LARC's book publications program, we will invite you to submit the complete manuscript for evaluation by staff editors and consultant readers.
Directions for Preparing Manuscripts
Please follow the directions listed below in preparing your manuscript for submission to the LARC Press publications program. Care taken during the initial stages of manuscript preparation will facilitate evaluation and accelerate production. It is the responsibility of the volume editor to see that the following specifications are observed by contributors.
Format/Documentation
- Double-spacing: Everything, including notes, extracts, appendixes, and the works-cited list, should be double-spaced.
- Margins: Leave one-inch margins so that the copyeditor has sufficient room for queries and editorial suggestions.
- Readability: Make sure that the type size throughout is at least 12 point and dark enough to allow easy legibility.
- Page numbers: The final manuscript should have pages numbered consecutively from beginning to end.
- Images/Graphics: Graphics should be the highest possible quality to ensure that they will be printable - 150ppi is the minimum, 300ppi is suggested. Do not compress or resize graphics prior to delivery. Graphics should also be stored on a disk as a separate file from the manuscript.
- Manuscript: Contributors should deliver to LARC Press a hard copy of the entire manuscript (including all images) along with an electronic file of the entire document.
- MLA style: All documentation in the manuscript should follow MLA style as set out in the most recent edition of the MLA Style Manual.
- Author/editor biography: Authors/editors are requested to submit a short biography (150 words max.), portrait (JPEG format; highest quality/size possible, 200 pixels x 150 pixels minimum), and URL for their personal/professional website.
